CM KCR reviews Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project, to be ready by next monsoon
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday called for the construction of check dams, canals and tanks, while saying that irrigation projects were being taken up, to find a permanent solution to harvest water resources across the state.
He said the construction of irrigation projects is an integral part of ensuring a better future for Telangana.
The CM held a review meeting in Hyderabad at Pragathi Bhavan on Monday on the issue, and checked the reservoirs that are coming up as part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation scheme.
Speaking at the review meeting the Chief Minister said that there is no chance of Upper Manair Dam getting dried up. As the existing works progress, the southern part of Karimnagar district would be always 'alive', KCR said.
Similarly, Kakatiya canal would be another live stream of water, while Northern Karimnagar would also become a live stream due to the barrages being constructed on Godavari River, a press release from the Chief Minister's Office explained.
The Chief Minister also said that if Singur were to be filled up, there would not be any problem for five years. Once Singur is filled, water can be filled from Singur to Konda Pochamma to Mallanna Sagar, which would be a live stream.
Officials told the CM that Mid Manair would be filled up by July or August this year. The CM said that he wanted the construction of all necessary barrages to be completed by the time Mid-Manair dam receives the water.
Pointing out that the open canal works are over from Mid Manair to Anantagiri, he said that the remaining tunnel works should be completed fast.
"To make the famine regions turn fertile, water for irrigation should be made available at the earliest and tanks should be filled up when the water is available," KCR was quoted as saying.
The CM also reviewed works on the canals under Mallanna Sagar. He wanted water to flow from Mallanna Sagar to Singur on gravity.
More land would come under cultivation under the gravity route, he said.
Stating that he wanted a lot of land under the constituencies of Gajwel, Dubbaka and Siddipet to come under cultivation, KCR also inquired about the present status of Gandhamalla and Baswapur reservoirs.
He said the results would be directly proportionate to the completion of works on both these reservoirs. The CM reviewed the progress of land acquisition for these reservoirs.
The CM said check dams should be constructed on the tributaries Manjira, Dundubhi, Kanagal, Musi and Pakala, to 'drought-proof' the state.
Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, Engineer-in-Chief Sri Muralidhar Rao, CE Sri Hari Ram, MP Sri Prabhakar Reddy, Mission Bhagiratha Vice Chairman Sri Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Mining Corporation Chairman Sri Seri Subhash Reddy, MLA Sri Marri Janardhan Reddy, MLC Sri Salim, CMO Official Sri Bhoopal Reddy and others participated in the review meeting.
“It is the commitment of our Chief Minister to bring under cultivation one crore acres in Telangana. Following his vision, the project that takes eight years to complete is being executed in a record 20 months,” Harish Rao had earlier said.
