The News Minute | January 7, 2015 | 10:20 am ISTThe Telangana government has issued an order which bans the use of mobile phones in all educational institutions in the state. The move is seen as a result of the rise in misuse of cellphones in schools. As of now, neither students nor teachers will be allowed to carry mobiles into classrooms.Commissioner of school education has also asked the district education officers and the regional joint director of school education to implement the instructions. The order says “neither the teacher nor the student shall be permitted to carry cell phones in the classroom. All the school managements shall make separate arrangements for depositing mobile phones either in the staff room or with the watchman or security."A committee formed in order to check crime against women and girls had submitted some recommendations to the state government including the ban of cellular phones in the schools. The order received a warm response from officials who felt that cell phones were a distraction but also brought out some apprehensions from students who felt that carrying a phone would be useful in case of an emergency.Tweet
