An unidentified man was washed away in an open nala in Hyderabad's Jeedimetla area on Saturday evening, even after several people tried to rescue him, but in vain.
A video of the incident recorded by locals, shows the man holding on to a manhole, and later hanging on to a rope as people try to pull him to safety. However, he slips and gets washed away with the gushing water.
“Though he caught the cable and put in all his efforts, he lost grip and was washed away. We were informed by the locals and we reached the spot along with a JCB machine and started rescue operations,” C Shanker Reddy, Inspector, Jeedimetla told Telangana Today.
Speaking to the Times of India, Jeedimetla sub-inspector B Veera Babu said that the preliminary investigation suggested that the victim was in an inebriated state.
“A shopkeeper first saw when the unidentified person tried to jump into the nala. Pretending to have obeyed the shopkeeper, he walked away and got into the auto belonging to the former. Finding him speaking incoherently , the shopkeeper asked him to leave the place. After some time, he suddenly jumped into the nala,'' Veera Babu told ToI.
Deccan Chronicle reported that this was the second incident in six days, and third in three weeks, after an autorickshaw driver from Al Jubail Colony, had slipped into a nala and was washed away in the Old City six days ago.
