Even as Hyderabad is reeling from the aftermath of yesterday’s heavy rainfall, which  disrupted daily life, a frothing drain (Mini Tank Bund) in Saroornagar spilled over into a residential area in Kodandram Nagar.

In the video, the toxic chemical froth can be seen engulfing the road.

According to local reports, the froth came through a manhole along with rainwater and got accumulated on the roads.

Froth covering upto five to six feet of the road was reported.

Local residents said that the stench of the chemical froth was unbearable and fear that they may be susceptible to skin diseases.

They said that it was the first instance of toxic foam entering residential areas.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Health officer K Mallikarjun Rao said that the rescue team has already countered the froth using water. “We are also sanitising the affected area with bleaching powder and lime,” he said.

He added that the GHMC is investigating on how the chemical frothing happened.

“In Saroornagar, there are no factories, which may release these chemicals, so we are investigating if toxic effluents from high level areas like Badangpet is released,” he said.
