Kapu leaders on Friday warned of fresh agitation for reservation if prompt action is not taken by the Andhra Pradesh government on their demands.

The community leaders expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in implementing the promises given to Mudragada Padmanabham, who is spearheading the stir for reservation in education and jobs in Andhra Pradesh.

Early this month, Padmanabham launched an indefinite fast, demanding that Kapus be included in the list of backward classes (BCs), and ended his hunger strike after the government promised to look into the demand.

Addressing a press conference here, Kapu Sadbhavana Sangham district president Vasureddy Yesudas and secretary Basava Chandramouli said it has been nearly three weeks since Padmanabham called off his fast, but the TDP-led Government was yet to fulfil promises made to him.

The government has failed to take follow-up action on assurances like releasing Rs 500 crore for the community's welfare and nominating one person suggested by Padmanabham as a member of the Manjunatha Commission (which is looking into the quota issue), they said.

Yesudas and Chandramouli warned that if the government led by Chandrababu Naidu fails to fulfill these promises, Kapus will launch a fresh stir.
