“It feels like my daughter was not born on July 3, not June 27,” says a relieved Sabawat Nari.

Nari’s daughter was rescued by the police after she was kidnapped from the Koti Government Maternity Hospital.

To express their gratitude, the baby’s parents have named her Chetana, after Sultan Bazar Assistant Commissioner of Police, M Chetana, who led the investigation to find her.

“She (the ACP) took a lot effort to rescue my child. I will be forever be thankful to her.. I remember her assuring us that they will bring back the baby and then leaving immediately for Bidar to save my daughter,” Nari shares.

“Had my child been a son, I would have named him Shiva Shanker after the Sultan Bazar Inspector,” he adds.

Nari recalls the emotional turmoil his family went through when their baby was abducted by an unknown woman.

“I had no faith that we will find our daughter. My wife too had no faith at all, despite the police assuring us. I was seething with anger; I was panicked and restless. We didn’t eat the entire day and were sleepless. It was a nightmare. I just wish to erase that memory,” Nari narrates.

Speaking to TNM, Chetana’s mother, Vijaya, says, “I am so overwhelmed now. Many people prayed for my daughter’s safety. She’s safe now. I thank everyone and the police department for their efforts to safely bring back the child to me.”

On June 2, the couple, residents of Yellamma Gudem of Mancherial mandal, had visited the maternity hospital to get their baby vaccinated.

A woman posing as a hospital staff member took the baby from Vijaya and never returned.

Following a complaint filed by the two, the Sultan Bazar police registered a case and began their pursuit to nab the kidnapper, who was seen boarding a bus to Bidar from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station.

Two teams of Hyderabad police, the Task Force and Detective team, along with the Karnataka police, rescued the baby from a government hospital in Bidar the very next day. Two suspected kidnappers were arrested.

The rescued baby, Chetana, is now availing treatment at at Nilofer Hospital.

“She is safe now,” says Nari.
