A Facebook post by a Chennai man claiming to see three men attempting to gangrape a woman on Saturday has sent the city police go around in circles.  But when police asked him to find the spot, where the alleged crime took place, he was unable to trace it.

Vasanth Paul, a model, posted on his Facebook page in the wee hours of Saturday morning that after watching “Kabali”, he stopped at Alandur to have a smoke. It was at that point that he came across the alleged crime. “I tried walking away but instantly heard a faint drugged cry saying ‘bachao.. please help... anna.. anna.. anna..’ I immediately shouted out angrily and jumped in hoping a passerby would hear and join to help... There were 3guys, none of them from the south,” reads his post on Facebook.

He went on to claim that when he tried to save the girl, he was strangled with a thick jute rope by one of the men.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Kalyan told The News Minute that Vasanth Paul was not able to locate the spot where the incident happened. He could not enact the incident also.

However, the police are unaware about how Vasanth sustained injuries on his neck.

Vasanth also wrote that an autorickshaw driver came to the rescue of the woman and hit the three men. The three men ran away and a police complaint was not filed as per the woman’s request, his post claimed.

DCP Kalyan said, “As far as the police is concerned, the case is closed as we are unable to trace the victim or the autorickshaw driver either.”

Vasanth’s Facebook post received more 32,000 shares and over 2,800 comments.

Here is his post:

Vasanth agreed that he was not able to identify the area as he was not familiar with the Alandur area in Chennai.

"I have been co-operating with the police and took them to the place where I thought it happened. I am not able to identify the exact spot," Vasanth told The News Minute.

Vasanth says he sustained injuries on his neck and body as he fought three men who were harassing a woman on June 22.

"I was travelling from T.Nagar to Chromepet at around 11:30 pm on Friday.  I took a detour through Alandur to avoid the main road. I took a left before the Royal Meridian. I stopped on my way to take a leak. I heard some noise which sounded like moaning. I thought it must have been an animal or someone with a sex worker. But seconds after I switch on my bike the noise increased. I heard the person crying for help. I pointed my headlight at the direction from where the noise was coming," Vasanth said.

According to Vasanth, a girl was being assaulted by a few men, one of them attacked him.

"Meanwhile the woman ran away. I thought she had escaped. But she got back within two minutes. She was the one who got the auto driver. The auto driver helped chase the men away," he said.
