Four out of five exit polls conducted by English television channels along with agencies have predicted a thumping win for the BJP-led NDA for a second consecutive term in the Parliament. The Times Now-VMR, Republic-C Voter, and Republic-Jan Ki Baat, have all predicted a majority for the NDA, with many of them even going on to predict an absolute majority for the BJP alone. NewsX-NETA exit poll meanwhile has predicted a hung Parliament.
The India Today-My Axis poll has predicted a massive victory of the BJP-led NDA, projecting 339 to 365 seats for them. They've projected 77 to 108 seats for the UPA, and 69 to 95 for other parties.
The Times Now-VMR poll has predicted 306 seats to the NDA and 132 seats to the UPA. According to this poll, the BJP alone will win 262 seats this time around. The poll has predicted 104 seats for other parties. While according to this prediction, the NDA is down by 46 seats compared to 2014, the poll has predicted a higher vote share for the ruling alliance – from 39.3% in 2014 to 41.1% in 2019. UPA’s vote share is predicted to go up from 26% in 2014 to 31% in 2019. The poll has predicted a vote share of 34.2% for the BJP, and 22.8% for the Congress.
The Republic-CVoter exit poll had predicted 287 seats for the NDA – comfortably above the halfway mark of 272. UPA meanwhile has been given 128 seats by the poll. The Mahagathbandhan of SP, BSP and RLD is predicted to win 40 seats, whereas other parties are predicted to get 87 seats.
The Republic-Jan Ki Baat poll meanwhile has predicted that the NDA will cross the 300-mark, with 305 seats for the alliance. The poll has given 124 seats to the UPA, 26 seats to the Mahagathbandhan, and 87 seats to others.
The NewsX-NETA poll has also predicted 242 seats for the NDA -- 30 eats short of the halfway mark. The poll has predicted 164 seats for the UPA, and 135 seats to other parties.
In the 2014 Parliamentary elections, the BJP went comfortably past the halfway mark of 272 in the 543-member House, with 282 seats. They formed the government along with their pre-poll alliance partners as the NDA, with a total of 336. The Congress was decimated in 2014 with just 44 seats in the Lok Sabha, with the UPA winning just 59 seats in all.
The AIADMK, which is currently part of the NDA, won 37 seats in 2014; while rivals DMK were decimated and won zero seats in the Lok Sabha. The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won 34 seats in 2014.
Two southern parties which are touted to be game changers – the TRS and the YSRCP – won 11 and nine seats in 2014 respectively. The TDP, which was an NDA alliance partner last time around but has had a bad fallout with the BJP now, won 16 seats in 2014.
