Actor Silambarasan, who was last seen on screen in Sundar C’s Vantha Rajavathaan Varuven, was expecting to commence work on his much-awaited political thriller Maanaadu with director Venkat Prabhu. In preparation for his role in Maanaadu, Simbu had also gone to London to lose weight for his role. It was then said that the team will have to commence shooting for the film from October or November as Simbu is currently busy shooting for the untitled Tamil remake of Mufti which also co-stars Gautham Karthik.

However, producer Suresh Kamatchi recently announced that he has dropped the plans of making Maanaadu with Simbu and will now make the film with some other actor in the lead. In a statement, Suresh said that he’s tired of waiting for the project to take off, and that he has finally decided to shelve the idea of making it with Simbu. He thanked Simbu for initially agreeing to be part of the project which will be directed by Venkat Prabhu.

However, Suresh has now revealed in an interview to a YouTube channel that he made the announcement only after Simbu insisted on exiting from the project due to various reasons. Suresh also said that since he'd roped in director Venkat Prabhu, Kalyani Priyadarshan as the heroine and so many technicians for the project, he will not drop it and that he will execute it with another actor.

Meanwhile, Simbu is currently shooting for the Tamil remake of the Kannada blockbuster Mufti from next month. This project, to be directed by Narthan, also stars Gautham Karthik and will be bankrolled by Studio Green. The original starred Shiva Rajkumar, Srimurali, Shanvi Srivastav and Chaya Singh. The film will be centered on a police officer, played by Srimurali, who goes head to head with an underworld boss, played by Shiva Rajkumar. Apparently, Simbu will be seen playing the underworld boss and Gautham Karthik will don khaki for the first time in the role of a police officer.

Meanwhile,Venkat Prabhu is currently busy shooting a web series for Hotstar which stars Kajal Aggarwal and Vaibhav.
