The official pooja of Jiiva’s upcoming film Gorilla took place recently in Pondicherry and the team started the shooting immediately afterwards.
The interestingly titled film’s main character is centred around a chimpanzee, say sources. For the first time in the history of Indian cinema, a chimpanzee will play an important role in this film. Reports say that the Gorilla unit will be stationed in Pondicherry for a two-week schedule and then head to Thailand where a chimp from the Samut Training Station has been roped in to play the main lead.
Reports say that the film is a heist comedy about a group of people trying to loot a bank with the help of a chimpanzee. The female lead of Gorilla is Shalini Pandey of Arjun Reddy fame. The film also has a bevy of stars in the cast including Radha Ravi, Sathish, Muniskanth, Yogi Babu and Mottai Rajendran. It may be mentioned here that RJ Balaji was initially roped in to play a pivotal role in this entertainer, but he was later replaced by Sathish.
Helming the affairs of the film as its director is Don Sandy who had directed the crime thriller Mahabalipuram earlier. Talking about the film during a media interaction, the director said, “The whole film revolves around the chimpanzee and we have been training the chimpanzee for the action/comedy sequences for the past four months.”
The film is bankrolled by Vijayaraghavendra under his banner All In Pictures, which has produced movies such as Masala Padam and Rum. The music for this comedy entertainer will be composed by Sam CS of Vikram Vedha fame.
Sources close to the Gorilla film unit said that the shooting will be wrapped up by April with plans to release it during the summer vacation.
Shalini Pandey will be making her debut in the Tamil film industry with 100% Kadhal, which is gearing up for release soon. The film has music composer-turned-hero GV Prakash playing the lead role.
