In the latest update from Dhanush’s next film with Vetrimaaran, Asuran, popular Malayalam actor Manju Warrier will be playing the female lead. Dhanush took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce this. “The evergreen Manju Warrier will be playing the female lead. Excited to share screen space and learn from this amazing talent,” reads his tweet.
Asuran will mark Manju Warrier’s debut in Tamil cinema. Manju, who was born in Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, made her Malayalam debut in 1995 with Sakshyam. She then went on a hiatus following a brief four-year stint in the film industry. Manju made her comeback in 2014 with How Old Are You? which was also remade in Tamil with Jyotika as 36 Vayadhinile in 2015.

Manju, who was last seen in Odiyan alongside Mohanlal, has three other Malayalam films - Lucifer, Jack and Jill and Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham - in different stages of production.
Asuran is Dhanush’s fourth film with Vetrimaaran following Polladhavan, Aadukalam and Vada Chennai.
Soon after the release of Vada Chennai, it was revealed that the duo will work together on a film based on the Tamil novel ‘Vekkai', written by Poomani. The novel is a revenge drama that traces the fight of an oppressed community. This film would serve as a break before the team reunites once again for the part two of Vada Chennai.
The makers had revealed the first-look poster of Asuran in December last year where Dhanush is seen with vibuthi-smeared forehead and stained teeth.
The film will be bankrolled by Kalaipuli S Thanu, who had recently produced VIP 2. More details on Asuran are yet to be revealed.
In addition to Asuran, Dhanush also has the long pending project with director Gautham Menon titled Enai Noki Paayum Thota. The film’s release has been delayed for some time owing to financial reasons.
