The first look poster of Nani’s upcoming film Jersey gave a clear indication that it is a film about cricket.
The jersey hanging in a cupboard along with other cricket gear around did go viral among the netizens. In fact, Nani had expressed his desire to star in a sports-based film on the lines of the Aamir Khan starrer Dangal and looks like his wish is coming true, thanks to Jersey.
And that is not all about this film. According to the latest reports surfacing, the film will be set in a different time period. Sources say that the timeline of the film will begin in the year 1986 and end in 1996. What happens during this decade forms the crux of the movie’s plot, we hear.
The team is currently busy with the preparation work and the shooting will begin in September this year. Nani will undergo a special training in cricket to get the nuances of the role he will be playing in the film.
Jersey will be bankrolled by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi under the banner of Sithara Entertainments.
On the film, its director Gowtam Tinnanuri said in an interview to FirstPost, “It is a story about a late bloomer who realizes his talent at a certain age and pursues his dream to join the Indian cricket team. It’s a period sports drama and the story takes place between 1986 and 1996… As a subject, I want this story to reach as many people as possible. With his universal appeal, Nani can take this story far and wide. I also really like him as an actor.”
Besides Jersey, Nani also has the multi starrer in which he will be sharing the screen space with Nagarjuna.
He is currently hosting the television reality show, Bigg Boss 2.
