Last seen playing a street fighter in Pandigai, actor Krishna has landed a plum role in Dhanush’s Maari 2. Announcing that he is part of the project, director Balaji Mohan on Friday revealed that he will be seen playing the second lead.
The project reunites Dhanush and Balaji after the first part and it already features an interesting ensemble cast of Sai Pallavi and Tovino Thomas among others. It’s a big break for Krishna who, despite being a decent actor, has never got to prove his mettle. It’ll be interesting to see what role Krishna will get to essay in the film.
Maari 2 was supposed to materialise much earlier but due to Dhanush’s multiple commitments, including his directorial project Power Paandi, the film had to be pushed. In the film, Dhanush played a dhoti-clad, moustache-twirling local rowdy and he will return in the same getup for the sequel, which will be bankrolled by Wunderbar Films. Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas, who has worked in films such as Oru Mexican Aparatha and Godha and recently in Dhanush’s maiden Malayalam production Tharanga, has been roped in to play the baddie in the film, which will be made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu.
One of the big highlights of Maari was its music by Anirudh Ravichander. After they fell out, Dhanush and Anirudh parted and the former teamed up with Sean Roldan for Power Paandi and VIP 2. It would be interesting to know if Sean will be retained for Maari 2 or will Dhanush bury the hatchet and go back to Anirudh. The project is expected to roll from November. Dhanush is currently shooting for Vetrimaaran’s Vada Chennai, in which he plays a gangster.
