Kannada movies have been making it to digital platforms steadily in the recent past, but only after their theatrical release. Amazon Prime launched an exclusive Kannada movies library on November 1, even as the state celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava. This indeed is a positive turn to Sandalwood’s growth as many patrons were eagerly looking forward to this news.

In a further development, Orange became the first Kannada movie to be acquired by Amazon Prime prior to its release. This is indeed a huge achievement for the team and will be a good promo for the film as well.

Directed by Prashanth Raj, and starring Ganesh and Priya Anand in the lead, the film is bankrolled by popular producer HLN Raj. While the announcement regarding this project was made on July 2 to coincide with Ganesh’s birthday, the official pooja happened on Ganesh and Shilpa’s wedding anniversary. Orange went on the floors in August this year and the shooting has been wrapped up. The film, touted to be a romantic entertainer, is scheduled to release next month.

It may be mentioned here that Prashanth Raj was initially in talks with Puneeth Rajkumar and Yash, but both the actors could not make time as they were busy with their other acting commitments. Following this, he had approached Ganesh and was given a go-ahead after an impressive storytelling session, say sources.

A television presenter and actor, Ganesh made his acting debut with the 2002 release Tapori. He initially appeared in small roles before working his way up as a hero. Films to his credit include Baa Baaro Rasika, Amrithadhare, Chellata, Cheluvina Chittara, Gaalipata, which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Kannada, Maleyali Jotheyali, which again won him the same award, Shravani Subramanya and others.
