Born on November 7, 1954, Kamal was about five years old when he starred in AVM Productions’ Kalathur Kannamma, marking his entry into films. Kamal was immediately drawn into the spotlight with his performance in the film winning him a Rashtrapati Award (President’s Gold Medal).
November 7 also happens to be the death anniversary of his father D Srinivasan, who was a lawyer and a freedom fighter. The actor-director and now politician had planned to unveil his father’s statue at his hometown in Paramakudi on November 7.
On November 8, Kamal will unveil a statue of his mentor and veteran filmmaker K Balachander at Raajkamal Films’ new office premises in Alwarpet, Chennai. Balachander’s family members are expected to be present for this event, which will be followed by a special screening of the film Hey Ram at Sathyam Cinemas in Royapettah.
Also planned as a commemoration of 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, the screening will be followed by an interaction session with Kamal Haasan. Released in 2000, Hey Ram was centred around the partition of India and the assassination of Gandhi. The film received widespread critical acclaim and is considered to be the actor’s best work till today. The film won three National Awards.
A star-studded event has been planned for November 17 called Ungal Naan. Celebrities including Kamal Haasan’s longest pal Rajinikanth are expected to be present. The evening will have special musical performance orchestrated by Ilaiyaraaja himself. The event will be held at Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.
