In an explosive twist in the Kerala solar scam, the state cabinet has decided to file cases of sexual assault against many prominent politicians of the erstwhile UDF regime and  officials named by solar scam accused Saritha Nair.

The case will be based on a letter written by Saritha Nair in July 2013 containing serious allegation of rape and sexual assault.

Addressing the media in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said, “It has been proven that Saritha Nair was raped and sexually assaulted."

According to various leaked reports, people Saritha Nair named included former CM Oommen Chandy, Ernakulam Congress MLA Hidi Eden, former electricity minister Aryadan Muhammed, Konni MLA Adoor Prakash, Congress MP KC Venugopal, and Lok Sabha MP Jose K Mani and former Tourism Minister KP Anil Kumar.

“Criminal cases will be taken against all those named by Saritha Nair in her latter. Though the solar commission found her allegations were true, the SIT did not probe this,” said Pinarayi Vijayan.

Reacting to the major development, Saritha Nair called it a vindication for her.

“This is justice for me. Though this has come late, I welcome it,” she said.

The original letter written by Saritha Nair in July 2013 containing these allegations had 21 pages, but was reduced to four pages by Saritha later.

Former DGP of Kerala Jail Alexander Jacob told the judicial commission probing the solar scam that he was informed by his jail staff about the letter, which had names of 13 VIPs and a senior police officer.

Jacob had told the judicial commission that the letter did not have the name of Oommen Chandy.
