Last seen playing a stingy don in Junga, Vijay Sethupathi has signed a new film with director Vijay Chandar, best known for directing Vaalu and Sketch. The announcement was made on Thursday when Vijay Chandar took to Twitter and wrote: “Happy to announce that I’ll be joining hands with my favourite hero Vijay Sethupathi for next film with Vijaya Productions. We’re set to roll from February (2019).” Apparently, this untitled project will be a commercial family entertainer that’ll be predominantly set in Chennai.

Talking to the Times of India, Vijay Chandar said: “I’ve met Vijay Sethupathi a few times, and during one of those meetings, I happened to narrate a one-liner about the film to him, and he was kicked. He has done a variety of roles, and he told that he wanted to do a mass film now. Even I like making mass commercial films, and we thought this script could work for both of us.” The team is yet to finalise the rest of the cast and crew.

Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi is gearing up for the release of 96, his third release of the year. The film sees him joining hands with lensman-turned-director Prem Kumar, who had previously worked with Vijay in Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom. He also has Super Deluxe, Seethakathi, Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam and Karthik Subbaraj’s next yet-untitled project with superstar Rajinikanth in the offing.

Amid all these projects, Vijay will be seen making his Kannada debut via the upcoming project Akhaada, which he had originally signed even before he rose to stardom. The project, for reasons unknown, has been on the floors for nearly four years. Apparently, the film was cleared by the censors last week and the team has begun promotions. It has to be seen if Vijay will take out time to promote the film. He had signed this project when he was shooting for Tamil cop drama Sethupathi. Interestingly, he plays a negative role in this project.
