The trailer for Season 2 of Sacred Games dropped on Tuesday. Season 1 of the Netflix original starring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddique, Radhika Apte and others was a huge hit. Adapted from Vikram Chandra's novel by the same name, the series is about a Mumbai gangster called Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who warns of a catastrophe in 25 days. It falls upon a police officer Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) to stop it from happening.
The newly released trailer promises to pick up from where the action stopped in the first season, bringing back Ganesh Gaitonde in the full glory of his diabolical nature. Sartaj Singh can be seen puzzling out the clues that the gangster has left behind for him - how does Ganesh's story tie into Sartaj's personal history? Like the first season, there's also a heady mix of religion and politics in the second season, as can be seen in the trailer.
Watch:
The first season documented the rise of Ganesh Gaitonde, juxtaposing it with real life Indian history. Events like the demolition of the Babri Masjid, the Shah Bano case, and the Mumbai blasts figured prominently in season 1.
The series received unanimously positive reviews. Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan especially were applauded for their performances. Kubra Sait, who played a trans woman, was also appreciated for her performance as Gaitonde's lover.
Directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, Sacred Games season 2 will premiere on Netflix on August 15.
