Mohanlal’s upcoming film Drama will be something that has never been tried out in the Malayalam film industry, said actor Baiju Santhosh who plays a pivotal role in it. In an interview to the Deccan Chronicle, he has been quoted as saying, “The movie deals with a theme which hasn’t been narrated in Malayalam. It’s a pucca humour movie and I’m sure it will have audience in splits. Lalettan and I are colleagues (in the film) and we work for a Malayali boss. It’s after some years that he is doing a freewheeler. Everyone will see the old Lalettan in this. My character is also prominent. The shooting location was relaxed as if we were on a college tour.”
The film is set in the UK and a major portion of it is being shot there. According to sources close to Drama, Mohanlal and Asha Sharath play the husband and wife, Rajasekaran and Rekha, respectively, and that it is a film that would be about family sentiments and emotions.
Scripted and directed by Ranjith, Drama is expected to be a family entertainer that delves on the lives of the NRIs living in the UK. Besides Mohanlal, Baiju and Asha, the cast also includes Kaniha, Arundhathi Nag, Siddique, Niranj, Mythili, Shalin Zoya and Tini Tom. We also hear that the cast includes three directors - Dileesh Pothen, Shyama Prasad and Johny Antony – playing pivotal roles. Vinu Thomas is scoring the music and Azhagappan is cranking the camera for this film.
It may be mentioned here that Ranjith’s initial plan was to make a love drama Bilathikatha with Niranj and Anu Sithara playing the lead pair and Mohanlal playing a small role in it. However, this project has been shelved after Mohanlal gave the go ahead for Drama.
Drama is bankrolled by MK Nassar and Maha Subair under the banners Lilypad Motion Pictures and Varnachithra Good Line Productions. The shooting of this film has reportedly been completed and it is expected to grace the theatres later this year.
