As the CES 2018 draws near, one can expect most leading electronics companies to announce their new products, which will be displayed there and made available in the market thereafter. Samsung Electronics has made public its new range of laptops and 2-in-1s in this context.
The products announced include the Notebook 9 Pen and the upgraded versions of Notebook 9, which will be identified as Notebook 9 (2018).
The Samsung Notebook 9 Pen sports a 13-inch (930QAA) full HD ‘RealViewTouch’ display, with a screen resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. At the heart of this device is the Intel i7 processor, 8th generation and up to 16GB DDR4 RAM, up to 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD, and Intel HD graphics.
The outer chassis is made of magnesium aluminum that helps the weight of the notebook to be under a kilo (995 grams to be precise). Some of the key features of this 2-in-1 include an integrated S Pen, backlit keyboard, precision touchpad and a fingerprint sensor. It will run on windows 10 and the connectivity options include an HDMI port, a single USB Type-C port, and a regular USB port. Of course, the option to connect to a microSD card to make some of the documents easily portable is also provided. A Windows Hello front camera and a 39W battery sort of round up the hardware specs.
Samsung claims the new S Pen is capable of recognizing 4096 different pressure points while writing or painting on the screen and has a fine 0.7mm tip.
Now on to the upgraded versions of the Samsung Notebook 9. These are being released in three variants; one will have a screen size of 13.3 inches and the other two are 15 inches. The displays are 900X3T & 900X3U for the 13.3-inch Notebook 9 and 900X5T, 900X5U and Discreet Graphics 900X5T for the 15-inch variants. These are all again Realview full HD touch display and the screen resolution across all of them will be 1920x1080pixels.
The same 8th generation i7 Intel processor with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD will adorn these Notebook 9 (2018) devices. Samsung offers the buyers of the 15-inch Notebook 9 the option to upgrade to a 2GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce MX150 graphics card. Many of the other specs described in the Notebook 9 Pen above, like the touchpad, backlit keyboard, fingerprint sensor etc. will be available on the three Notebook 9 (2018) iterations as well. The battery, however, is 75W and Samsung claims it is the largest and most powerful battery inside a notebook. Fast charging and ‘always on’ features are also being cited as special features.
Samsung is yet to reveal the prices of the notebooks. It is understood that the physical availability of these devices will start with South Korea and stretch to the US markets and only later the other parts of the world.
