11:30am - Chennai police commissioner TK Rajendran has started the press meet on Swathi murder case

Chennai Police: Swathi's family co-operated with the investigation fully.

Chennai Police: we had appealed to people to share information on murder and we got info from here and abroad

Chennai Police: We investigated in and around Choolaimedu, college and school she studied, her office and other places she frequented.

Chennai Police: "The case was transferred from GRP. Several officers were involved in this investigation. We had requested ppl to share any details that they knew about this case. We got information from people. We investigated based on the inputs we received from people. Swatis parents gave full cooperation for this investigation.

Chennai police: When we went to arrest Ramkumar at his residence, he was hiding behind the house and inflicted injuries on self. We have admitted him to the hospital.

Tirunelveli police assisted us in this operation. We secured Ramkumar near his house. As police reached his house, he tried commuting suicide by slashing his throat. Police immediately took him to Tenkasi Govt hospital for first aid and admitted him in Tirunelveli govt hospital for treatment.

Chennai police: Investigations took place in Choolaimedu, Nungambakam, her work place and also the route in which she travelled. We investigated the case in different angles and were able to narrow down on suspect.

Chennai police: MOTIVE: Ramkumar was following Swathi and was interested in her. It is when he realised that it was not reciprocated, that he committed the murder.

Chennai police: Ramkumar stalked Swathi for over a period of time. We will bring him to Chennai as per doctor's advise.

On being asked what corroborating evidence to prove Ramkumar is guilty, commissioner says he cannot share it with the media now

Chennai police: He had no accomplice. 

Chennai police To instill confidence police is taking all action in city.
