Telugu veteran actor Mohan Babu is the latest addition to the cast of upcoming Suriya starrer Tamil action drama Soorarai Pottru, a film based on the life of Captain GR Gopinath – founder of the budget airline Air Deccan.
The makers made the announcement via a statement on Thursday and added that Mohan Babu will join the sets on Friday in Chandigarh. Last seen on screen in a cameo in Savitri biopic Mahanati, it is rumoured that Mohan Babu plays the antagonist in Soorarai Pottru.
The team is currently filming some action sequences under the supervision of international stunt choreographer Greg Powell, who is known for his work in films such as Skyfall and Bourne Ultimatum.
The film also stars Aparna Balamurali, last seen in Rajiv Menon’s Sarvam Thaala Mayam, as the female lead. The rest of the cast is yet to be revealed by the makers. On being chosen for the project, Aparna had tweeted: “Delighted, gratified and in short of words here! Here is announcing my next with utmost happiness and a feeling of for-most triumph. Couldn’t ask for anything better. Seeking all your blessings. Suriya 38 (sic)”.

Being produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, the film marks the southern debut of Bollywood producer Guneet Monga, who will be co-producing this project. The film has music by GV Prakash Kumar, who has already composed all songs for the album.
Sudha had pitched the story of Soorarai Pottru nearly three years ago but Suriya couldn’t immediately give his nod because he was occupied with multiple commitments. The project marks Suriya’s first time collaboration with a female director.
If everything goes as planned, Soorarai Pottru could be the third release for Suriya, who has Kaappaan gearing up to hit the screens in August. His first release of the year was Selvaraghavan directed political thriller NGK.
