Mohanlal is all set to make his debut as director with Barroz and the groundwork for this film is currently on. The actor-turned director has now announced that he is roping in two Spanish actors Rafael Amargo and Paz Vega for the film. The introduction video was posted on his social media handle.
The video begins with a scene from Mohanlal’s film Vanaprastham, with the actor in Kathakali costumes, saying ‘I do not speak as Arjuna of Mahabharatha, but as the person within this costume.” The actor then appears in front of the camera and introduces himself as an actor, who has been in the film industry for 41 years, is 59 years and 340 films old. For the first time he is going to direct a film.
“It is a children’s fantasy movie,” he says. He introduces the Spanish actors then – Rafael playing D’Gama in Barroz, and Paz, and also Caesar whom he speaks of as a friend of both Spanish and Malayalam movies, inviting them to join him in Goa to make the film.
“It is a story set against the backdrop of the maritime history of Portugal, Spain, Africa and India. B is indeed about our shared heritage that we inherited from our ancestors,” the veteran actor adds.
The short video also shows glimpses of his movies Oppam (when he says Barroz is a children’s fantasy film) and Devadoothan where he conducts a music session.
It was earlier announced that the child prodigy Lydian Nadhaswaram will compose music for this film. Lydian, a student of AR Rahman’s music academy, shot to limelight for winning the CBS talent show ‘The World’s Best’ which won him the million-dollar prize money.
The film is based on Barroz, a Portugese mythical figure, the guardian of Vasco da Gama’s valuable treasures for 400 years. Jijo Punnoose, who introduced 3D to the Indian film audience with the iconic My Dear Kuttichanthan is penning the story for Barroz. And as expected, it will be a 3D film! Acclaimed cinematographer KU Mohanan is already on board to crank the camera.
The shooting of this film is expected to commence in October this year and will be shot in different locations including Goa, Portugal etc. Being a big budget movie with several actors in the cast, the film will be dubbed in different languages, we hear. Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas is bankrolling the movie.
