For Sandalwood, Telugu style filmmaking works big time – a city-bred hero, a love interest who comes from a well-off family from a distant rural place, where her family members are thugs. And our hero goes all the way there to save the heroine and reform her family members.
While the trailer gave us an idea that Orange would probably be another old-wine-in-new bottle plot, there was some hope among fans that the director-actor duo of Prashanth Raj-Ganesh would have added a new flavour to this age-old formula. And yes, they do not disappoint.
Radha (Priya Anand) is madly in love with Prashanth (Harish Raj). After her family members disapprove of her love, she runs away from home. Santosh (Ganesh) is a small-time thief. While carrying out a robbery on a train, he meets Radha and is smitten by her. Radha pours her heart out to him and tells him that she is going to live with her boyfriend. After she gets down, Santosh finds her gold bangle – gifted to her by her family members – lying on the seat. Santosh now travels to her village to return the bangle. The family members mistake him to be Prashanth and extend a warm welcome. Then Radha returns with the real Prashanth and his parents, and the laughter riot begins.
Though the movie looks very inspired by Jab We Met and a lot of Telugu films, Ganesh’s performance gives the storyline a fresh feel. The storyline is predictable, but it is Ganesh, Ravishankar (of Silli Lalli fame) and Sadhu Kokila who make the audience stay glued to their seats and make them laugh heartily.
The director has ensured two hours of nothing but absolute entertainment with just the right amount of action, comedy and romance. The movie is a must-watch for Ganesh fans who is back with what he does the best – make people laugh. Neither the director nor the actors have gone overboard and together they have given us a clean entertainer.
Sadhu Kokila and Ravishankar’s jokes are surprisingly good and entertaining. Composer S Thaman’s songs – Orangeu orangeu, brotheru brotheru and Yaroo Yaroo are already a big hit. Three songs have been shot in exotic locations in Europe and Santosh Rai Pataje’s brilliant cinematography adds extra vigour to these songs.
If you are up for a two-hour roller coaster comic ride, give Orange a go.
