Veteran actor Sathyaraj is playing the lead role in the upcoming film Theerpugal Virkkapadum. According to reports, he has a good number of stunt sequences in the movie and has done it all by himself without opting for a body double. The actor had apparently made it clear to the filmmakers that he would be doing it despite the age factor.
On this, the film’s director Dheeran has said in an interview to the Times of India, “Sathyaraj sir has an infectious energy and it has been great shooting with an actor like him. This is a high-voltage action film, which has a strong message. Dinesh Subbarayan had choreographed some tough action sequences. We were initially skeptical if Sathyaraj sir would be able to do them as he’s a 60-plus actor. But he surprised us by doing the action scenes without using a body double. It was an indoor fight sequence, and we had to deal with erratic weather conditions. But he made it look so easy and surprised us with his energy.”
The film is touted to be an action thriller with a socially-relevant message. According to the director, it is a film about a father, played by Sathyaraj, who fights against the evils that had affected his daughter. The story is set in Chennai and will be about events that happen within a span of five hours. Dheeran also revealed that Theerpugal Virkkapadum has been inspired by Neeraj Pandey’s A Wednesday.
Cinematographer Anji has used Red Monstro 8K Vista Vision and Red Weapon 8K Helium cameras to shoot the film and it is used for the first time in Kollywood. The shooting of Theerpugal Virkkapadum is almost over and the team will be completing a patchwork soon, added the director.
