Even while the dust from director AL Vijay-Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivi first-look is yet to settle, the teaser of Queen, the upcoming biopic web series on late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, helmed by Gautham Vasudev Menon has been released. The video was shared by MX Player, the streaming platform on which the web series will premier.
All through the teaser the makers have been careful not to reveal the actors’ faces. It begins with Jayalalithaa as a school girl on stage in front of a mic, receiving applause from the audience. “State topper in school” it reads following which we’re shown a young girl dancing along with the words, “Superstar heroine at 18”. The teaser then shows a young woman dressed in white saree with the ADMK tricolour border, making public speeches.

The web-series has been co-directed by Prasath Murugesan of Kidari fame. The trailer will be released on December 5. According to reports, besides the real-life story, the web series will also have a fictional take. Actor Ramya Krishnan will be playing Jayalalithaa while actor Indrajith Sukumaran will be playing a pivotal role. More details on the cast is awaited.
It is said that Prasath Murugesan has handled the part showing Jayalalithaa’s childhood, while Gautham has directed her adult life. The web series has been written by Reshma Ghatala who had co-produced Thanga Meengal. Queen web series first season will have 11 episodes is set to premiere on MX Player.
When the web series’ first-look was released in September this year, Jayalalitha’s nephew Deepak had expressed his discontent. Deepak has told Deccan Chronicle that he has no problem if the filmmaker has portrayed her political life but should have received his and Deepa's consent if he was going to portray her private life.
