Late matinee idol and Kannada star Dr Vishnuvardhan's timeless classic Naagarahaavu is all set for a re-release soon. What makes it even more interesting is that it will out with the 7.1 surround sound.
Also, originally, the film was released on 35 mm but it will now be out on cinemascope making the viewing experience much better for the audiences. Directed by Puttanna Kanagal, the film was produced by actor V Ravichandran’s dad N Veerasamy. According to trade reports, the re-release work is currently being monitored by Veerasamy’s son and Ravichandran’s brother Balaji. The plan to re-release Naagarahaavu came up after the massive success of the re-release of Dr Rajkumar’s hit movie Kasturi Nivasa, say sources.
In an interaction with Indian Express, Balaji said "This film by legendary director Puttanna Kanagal, which was released in 35 mm, will be now presented in Cinemascope. The cinema viewing experience will be a visual treat in full screen, and in 7.1 surround sound,"
The re-release of Naagarahaavu will not be an easy job as it makers wanted to make it to be technically brilliant before its release at the theatres. The production work took around one and half years to be completed with the teams working in different places including Chennai, Bengaluru and Mumbai. DI was done in Mumbai. The BGM score will be redone by Gowtham Srivatsa, we hear. With the restoration work still in progress, the details about its release date are expected to be out soon.
The original version was released in the year 1973 to good response from the film buffs. It had Vishnuvardhan, Aarathi, KS Ashwath, Leelavathi and Ambarish in the star cast. Based on the book Nagarahavu, Ondu Gandu Eradu Hennuand Sarpa Mathsara by T. R. Subba Rao, the film’s screenplay was written and directed by Puttanna Kanagal.
Vijay Bhaskar had composed music for this film while Chittibabu had cranked the camera and P Bhakthavathsalam edited it. The film was produced by N Veeraswamy under the banner Sri Eshwari Productions.
