Sandalwood actor Darshan is in the dock again, after his wife Vijayalakshmi approached the police, and urged them to advise the ‘Challenging Star’. But this time, it’s a wait-see on how the situation will pan out as the Karnataka State Women’s Commission has taken up the case suo moto.
Vijayalakshmi approached the Chennammanakere Acchukattu police in Bengaluru on Wednesday night after Darshan turned up at her house and abused her. He also reportedly abused the security guard at the building in which she lives.
On Thursday, Member Secretary of the Commission Kavitha told The News Minute that Darshan would be summoned. “We have summoned the couple to discuss the issue tomorrow. Only after listening to both the versions we will be in a position to decide what has to be done,” she said.
This is not the first time that Vijayalakshmi has accused Darshan of ill-treating her.
In 2011, Darshan was arrested after Vijayalkashmi lodged a complaint with the police, accusing him of assault. Fans burned buses, and gathered at the Viajyanagar police station where the case was registered, and had to be lathicharged.
Darshan had allegedly tore one of her ears, which required four stitches, and also burned her with cigarettes. Her body was swollen and bleeding, Vijayalakshmi was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital to recover from her injuries. During that bout of violence, he had even threatened to killed their son, who was three at the time.
Soon, senior actors such as Ambareesh, comedian Jaggesh and others met Vijayalakshmi and asked her to compromise, reportedly assuring her that Darshan would be held responsible if he did not behave in future.
She then withdrew the complaint, saying that she fell down a flight of stairs, and that it was a family matter.
On another occasion, Vijayalakshmi went to the house of actor Shivrajkumar and his wife Geetha, when Darshan was abusive.
Vijayalakshmi has been living separately with her son in Hosakerehalli area in Bengaluru for the last two years.
