Metro services on both the Purple and Green Lines in Bengaluru will operate till 2 am on December 31, but riders boarding from three stations will have to pay Rs 50 for their tickets after 11 pm.
Anticipating a rush on New Year’s Eve, Namma Metro tickets at Cubbon Park, Trinity and MG Road will charge a flat rate after 11 pm, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) said on Wednesday. “Last year, we experienced a rush in these hours, so we have decided to make the prices Rs 50 at three stations to cope with it. We don’t want people being held up because they don’t have exact change and we know what kind of mood people will be in at that point,” said UA Vasanth Rao, Chief Public Relations Officer, BMRCL.
However, the hike in prices will not affect users of the smart card.
Confirming the decision to extend metro services on the night of 31 December, Rao said that the metro timings have been extended to 2 am for New Year’s Eve.
“The last train from Baiyapannahalli to Mysore Road will depart at 2 am. Similarly, another train from Mysore Road to Baiyapannahalli will also depart at 2 am. The same holds for the Green Line,” Rao said.
He also added that a larger number of security personnel will be deployed at Indiranagar, Trinity and MG Road Metro stations as well.
