An angry mob on Monday ransacked Narasapura police outpost in Kolar district, after a 20-year-old Dalit youth hanged himself, allegedly after being harassed by the police.

The New Indian Express reports that Manjunath, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, was found hanging at his residence. Manajunath, who was identified as a rowdy-sheeter was called to Vemgal police station along with four others, as a routine call-up.

However, his family alleged that Manjunath committed suicide after being tortured by the police. Police maintained that it is a routine to call rowdy-sheeters to the station every six months.

Protesters smashed the furniture at the police outpost and held protests with Manjunath's body.

According to the report, various Dalit organisations have claimed that Manjunath was harassed.
