With the rainfall in Kodagu is receding and many residents of Kodagu are attempting to restart their lives, the state education department has assured students not to worry about marksheets that have been lost or damaged and assured them that they will be given a duplicate marksheet and other educational certificates free of cost.
C Shikha, Director of Pre-University Education Board (Karnataka) told TNM, “Those students who have lost their marksheets can enroll their names with the college principals and fill up one registration form. After receiving that, we will issue the duplicate.”
Taking note of the number of working days lost due to these rains, she added that classes will be held during Dasara holidays to compensate for the weather-related lost days.
This announcement by the Education Department comes after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) made similar announcements regarding passports that were damaged in the floods.
Sushma Swaraj, in the wake of the Kerala floods, announced that all passports which were damaged or lost will be replaced free of cost. UIDAI CEO Ajay Bhushan Pandey also said that people can get their Aadhaar cards printed free of cost.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Instruction is also mulling conducting classes in relief centres for students whose houses have been damaged due to the rains.
Fresh textbooks and uniforms for all those who have lost their belongings as a result of the floods have also been promised.
The heavy rains, which lashed central Karnataka, began on August 12 after an already copious monsoon since June and have paralysed the tourist district.
Villages have been swept off, roads have been damaged and landslides have destroyed people’s homes. The death toll till Tuesday evening was 12 and could mount further with multiple instances of rescue personnel discovering dead bodies under the debris.
