It was smiles all around for the Mysuru royal family members gathered at a private hospital in Bengaluru after Trishika Kumari Devi delivered a baby boy on Wednesday night.

Photographs showing a smiling Trishika, the wife of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the scion of the Mysuru royal family, have emerged as the couple celebrated the birth of the baby boy. The boy is the 28th descendant of the royal family.

The mood of festive joy among family members was understandable as this it the first time in over sixty years that the royal family is celebrating the birth of a child.

Yaduveer succeeded the former scion of Mysuru, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, who died in 2013, leaving behind no heir. After a long search, Wadiyar’s wife Pramoda Devi formally adopted Yaduveer in February 2015, and named him the late scion’s successor.

Trishika, who hails from the royal family of Dungarpur in Rajasthan, married Yaduveer in June 2016.

According to a report in The New Indian Express, the last time a baby was born to the royal family was in February 1953, with the birth of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar.

Sources at the hospital revealed that both the baby and the mother were healthy and that Yaduveer along with grandmother Pramoda Devi and Yaduveer’s biological parents Swarup Anand Gopal Raj Urs and Tripura Sundari Devi were present at the hospital to mark the happy occasion.

The arrival of the royal baby was widely anticipated ever since a pregnant Trishika was spotted observing Dasara rituals in September.

R Rajachandra, son-in-law of late Jaychamaraja Wadiyar, the last ruler of Mysore, said that the whole family was rejoicing the birth of the child. “I was the one who sat through the adoption process of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on February 23, 2015 and it is a great feeling that their heir is born,” he said speaking to the Star of Mysore.
