A day after Bhavesh Jaiswal, a 23-year-old Mu Sigma employee in Bengaluru allegedly committed suicide, police have booked his employer for alleged abetment of suicide.
This after the victim’s father, Mahendra told police that his son had complained of workplace harassment, and was apprehensive of getting sacked.
Although Bhavesh, a trainee decision scientist at the data analytics company, wanted to resign from the position himself before getting terminated, his employment clause meant that he had to shell out money for breaching the contract. This was an accusation made by Mahendra in his complaint, TNM could not independently verify this information.
Bhavesh according to his contract had secured employment for three years as a trainee decision scientist at the analytics firm a year ago, and had resumed work on Monday after a long leave, police said.
Police are currently in the process of collecting evidence and forensic officials are going through his computer and mobile phone for clues. Till Wednesday morning, police had not recovered any suicide note and are exploring his call records.
DCP Whitefield, Abdul Ahad told TNM, “So far we have given the laptop and phone for forensic examination. The extract will take some time. We are expecting a report within a week, then we can come to a conclusion (without any suicide note).”
Meanwhile, the police are interrogating officials from Mu Sigma and others but mostly relying on forensic evidence, the senior officer added.
Shivanna, a sub inspector at Whitefield Police Station confirmed that the police have taken up a case against Mu Sigma under section 306 (of the Indian Penal Code after a complaint was made by the family.
“The family told police that management was harassing Bhavesh and that ultimately resulted in him taking the extreme step,” the police officer said.
Bhavesh, a native of Madhya Pradesh and who was staying in Indira Nagar along with his mother and sister was reported dead little after 4pm on Monday at ITPL,a major tech park in Whitefield.
Mu Sigma could not be reached for a statement on the development.
The company, in a statement, made on Tuesday, had said, “We are deeply saddened and shocked by the passing away of one of our employees. He had joined Mu Sigma in the latter part of 2017. We have informed his family, and they are understandably in a state of shock. It is too early to share further information at this stage.
