Actor Vinayakan was arrested on Tuesday evening, October 24, for creating ruckus in the Ernakulam Town police station. Vinayakan had come to the station at around 7.30 pm to resolve a family issue when he lost his cool as he was allegedly in an inebriated state. Despite the best efforts to calm the actor, he allegedly resisted the police following which a case was registered against him. He was subsequently arrested and then taken to a hospital for the mandatory medical examination.

According to a The New Indian Express report, Vinayakan had called the police station about a dispute with his wife over a financial matter. The police arrived at the couple’s apartment located at the Stadium Link Road, and asked Vinayakan to appear at the police station on Thursday. However, Vinayakan had turned up at the station the same evening.

Starting his film career in 1995, Vinayakan won the Kerala state best actor award for his role in Kammatipaadam in 2016. Recently, he appeared in the Rajini starrer Tamil film Jailer.

Earlier in July, Vinayakan was booked by the police for making controversial remarks during the death of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Last June, during a press meet related to the release of the film Oruthee, the controversial actor questioned what Me Too was, and said that if ‘asking’ for sexual favors falls under Me Too, then he has done it.

He also went on to point his fingers towards a woman journalist and said that he would ask for sexual favors if he wants it. Following widespread criticism, he apologised for his comments.
