Marriages are made in heaven they say but this one seems to have fizzled out rather abruptly. This couple in Kerala lived happily for all of 38 days, before the groom’s family came to know that the bride was cheating them.

Ashitha M (24) claimed that she was an IPS officer with Tamil Nadu cadre at the time of her marriage to Akhil Manohar, who is an Air Force official.

On Thursday, a young man Santi from Palakkad, Kumaranelloor visited Ashitha at her husband’s house in Vaikom of Kottayam district, claiming that she had duped him of Rs 3 lakh after promising him a job.

This is when Akhil’s family felt something was amiss and decided to file a complaint.

Though the Palakkad case was settled after giving back the money, Ashitha was arrested based on the complaint by her father-in-law, for impersonation and breach of trust.

“For the last few years, she was living in Kumaralloor where she made everyone around believe that she was an IPS officer and was working with Tamil Nadu Vigilance as a law and order officer. She offered a job to this person, who was staying in her neighbourhood. She had told him that she would appoint him as her driver cum assistant. Actually, she just had elementary education,” Vaikom SHO Shahil told TNM.

The police officer said that her parents are also involved in the case.

It is also learnt that Ashitha used to appear in uniform before her neighbours and  used to conduct fake checking of vehicles at check posts.

Police also said that Ashitha had borrowed money from some others in Kumaralloor, claiming that she was an IPS officer.

She had also convinced everyone from whom she had borrowed money that she had a salary of Rs 57,000.
