Days after an 18-year-old girl gave birth to a baby girl in Ernakulam following which a 12-year-old boy was booked for allegedly impregnating her, a detailed medical investigation is set to be conducted in the matter.
According to reports, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission on Wednesday ordered a detailed medical investigation, as the commission doubts if the minor boy was falsely implicated, since “she could be under pressure from someone else”.
The commission headed by acting Chairman P Mohandas has directed City Police Commissioner to appoint a DySP rank officer to initiate the probe.
After registering a suo moto case in the matter based on media reports, the commission has given two months’ time to the medical examination team to submit its report.
The Times of India quotes a Kochi-based sexologist Dr K Promodu as saying that instances of boys attaining sexual maturity at the age of nine or ten wasn’t uncommon, but said that scientific tests were imperative to arrive at a conclusion.
The Kalamassery police - who booked the minor boy for allegedly impregnating the girl- has reportedly sought permission from the court to conduct a DNA test.
Kalamassery Circle Inspector Jayakrishnan told The News Minute that the boy had indeed impregnated the minor girl, as he had confessed to doing so during questioning.
He added that the newborn was sent to a state-run home.
