Popular South Indian actor Kavya Madhavan  filed a police complaint on Tuesday against a few of those who trolled her on Facebook for her recent marriage to fellow-actor Dileep.

In a written complaint filed with the Ernakulam Range IG, the 32-year-old actor alleged that a number of derogatory comments were posted by social media users on her official page Lakshyah that deals solely with her designer business.

The complaint was duly forwarded to the Kalamassery police station on Thursday, following which the police have launched into a detailed investigation.

Kalamassery Circle Inspector Jayakrishnan told The News Minute that Kavya has even named a few Facebook users in her complaint:

"In her complaint, the actor pointed out that she has been the butt of hurtful comments that were mostly directed at her marriage with Dileep. These were extremely derogatory in nature, thereby causing her great mental trauma.”

Refuting media reports that the police had already recorded Kavya’s statement in this regard, the Inspector categorically dismissed the need to do so: "She has filed a written complaint. We will proceed to file a case based on it.”

According to the police, a case for defamation and another under the IT Act would be filed. However, in order to file a case under the IT Act, the police need to ascertain the true identities of the social media users who have been named in the complaint.

The police suspect that most of the trolls may have used fake profiles to target the actor.

Kavya and Dileep tied the knot on 25 November last year, thereby putting an end to long-standing rumours about their alleged relationship.

The wedding ceremony had taken both the cinema industry and the masses by surprise. Social media was awash with abuses directed at the couple, for the perceived ‘injustice’ to South Indian superstar Manju Warrier who is Dileep’s ex-wife, with many firmly believing that Kavya was the ‘real’ cause for the marriage break-up.

This is not the first time Kavya has had to approach the police to fight online breach of privacy. Earlier last year, she had filed a complaint with the state cyber cell against a number of fake Facebook accounts that kept cropping up under her name.

At the time, a few people were even arrested by the police.
