As the Left in Kerala is all set to form the government for the sixth time making a huge comeback in the state, there is still no clarity on who will be the next CM.
Although, there are no surprises in waiting as the Front will choose either of the two rivals within the alliance leaders CPI (M) politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan or mass leader VS Achuthanandan for the post.
According to sources in the party, there is a popular opinion that Vijayan will be made the CM and VS will be allotted a cabinet position while there is another opinion of making Achuthanandan CM for at least one year and later handing it over to Pinarayi.
The CPI (M) top brass, including General Secretary Sitatam Yechury and former general secretary Prakash Karat, is set to meet later this evening to decide on the matter.
The friction between the two leaders within the ranks of the communist party is no secret, the tall task for the party leadership lies in minimizing the damage with the announcement as both these leaders have their own share of clout within the party.
The tension is already evident with conflicting statements within the party with Karat on Thursday saying that CM would be named on Friday while Pinarayi Vijayan said the announcement regarding who will become the CM will only be made in the next two-three days.
