Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate from Piravom in Kerala, Sindhumol Jacob, has been ousted from the CPI(M) for allegedly indulging in anti-party activities. According to the CPI(M), Sindhumol had not informed the party before joining Kerala Congress(M) and agreed to contest as their candidate. Sindhumol was a CPI(M) Uzhavoor North Branch member.

According to reports, the CPI(M) local committee stated that Sindhumol was contesting from the Piravom constituency on a KC(M) ticket without informing the party. Following this, on Thursday morning, the CPI(M) branch committee convened to request for Sindhumol to be removed as a party member and the local committee decided to act on the expulsion.

It is important to note that the KC(M) is an ally of the CPI(M) and is a party in the Left Democratic Front alliance. Therefore, Sindhu will still be contesting as an LDF candidate.

Countering the allegations, Sindhu responded that it was in the knowledge of the CPI(M) leaders that she had moved to the Kerala Congress (Mani) faction. Adding that she will be contesting with the two leaf symbol of KC(M) from Piravom, she said that she knew it was natural for people to protest against her candidature.

Clashes also began within the KC(M) regarding the next candidate from Piravom. In protest against Sindhumol’s candidature, Piravom municipal councillor and state Vice President of the Youth Front (M), Jils Periappuram, quit the party. Jils was considered for the Piravom seat earlier. After Jils quit the party, he hit out against Kerala Congress (M).

Sindhumol is the daughter of Olikkal Jacob John, a CPI representative in Palakuzha panchayat, and Chinnamma John. She joined the All India Students Federation (AISF) while studying at Muvattupuzha Nirmala college. She later completed a degree course from a homeopathy college and started a private practice.

In 2005, Sindhu became panchayat president by contesting the polls that year as a Left-backed candidate. She was later ousted from the position through a no-confidence motion passed by the KC(M) in 2009.

Sindhumol Jacob was elected to Uzhavoor panchayat in 2010 and 2015. Right now, she is the Vice President of the Uzhavoor block panchayat and Meenachil Taluk Library Council member.
