Stressing that the Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya land dispute case is final, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that everyone is obliged to accept it.
The much awaited judgment on the Ayodhya dispute was delivered on Saturday morning by a five member judge bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. The verdict stated that the disputed 2.77 acre land will be given for the Hindu parties in the case and that an alternate five acre land will be given to Sunni Muslim Waqf Board to build a mosque.
“Some may feel that the verdict is against the claims and rights they have been fighting for years. Some others may feel that their demands have been accepted but both parties should react peacefully,” Pinarayi Vijayan said while talking to media a few hours after the verdict came.
He also stated that people’s peace should not be disrupted in anyway. “At the time of the Babri Masjid demolition, Kerala had reacted sensibly. We should continue being responsible. The SC verdict is final and therefore it should be accepted. The reactions to it should preserve peace, unity and secularism,” said the Chief Minister. He also added that the government has arranged all security measures and won't allow provocative reactions.
Meanwhile, top BJP leader in the state and former Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan said the verdict was acceptable to all. "It is a relief to see people with diverse and conflicting views on the issue approaching the judgment practically. It is not about victory or loss, what matters is how this judgment will aid everyone to live with unity by solving various problems the country is facing now,” he said.
He also said that coexistence and tolerance is what people should focus ob now. “Rumors and legends should never be leading us. Supreme Court verdict was able to uphold belief by taking into consideration archaeological evidence,” Kummanam said.
Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar, All-India Jamiyyathul Ulema general secretary, also reacted to the Supreme Court judgment by stating that the verdict is not about anyone’s loss or victory. “What is required now is to uphold the unity and fraternity of the country,” he said.
Though no untoward incidents were reported in the state, cases were registered in Ernakulam district against two people for posting communally inflammatory messages in social media.
