Saying that the Supreme Court’s unanimous verdict had marked a “new dawn” for a new India, PM Modi said that it has also shown the world how alive and strong India’s democracy is.
The Supreme Court on Saturday ruled that the disputed land in Ayodhya would be given to a trust, that will be put together by the Union government within three months; and that this trust will oversee the management and building of a temple. The court added that a separate site of around five acres will be identified and allotted at a prominent place in Ayodhya for the mosque.
“The whole country wanted for this matter to be heard daily, which happened. Today, the verdict has come, and the matter has come to a conclusion today,” he said, adding that it had reinforced India’s principle of unity in diversity. “After the verdict was pronounced, the way every section, community, and the nation accepted it with open heart represents India’s long heritage and good faith.”
Likening the verdict to “a golden chapter” in the Indian judiciary, the Prime Minister commended the apex court for hearing the matter patiently and coming to a unanimous decision. “The Supreme Court has showed determination in this decision. The Chief Justice of India, the courts and the judicial system are worthy of special appreciation for this.”
He also pointed out that it was on November 9 that the Berlin Wall had fallen, and added that the Kartarpur corridor between India and Pakistan had also been inaugurated (by him) earlier on Saturday. “With the Ayodhya verdict, the date of November 9 teaches us to move forward together,” he said.
“If there was any bitterness in anyone's mind, today is the day to let it go. Today, there is no place for bitterness and negativity in India,” PM Modi added.
The Prime Minister also urged for the new generation to build a “new India”.
“After this decision, we must pledge that the new generation will put itself into building a new India with renewed vigour. Come, let’s make a new India. We should keep in mind that no one is left behind,” he said.
Stressing on harmony, unity and peace, PM Modi said that these ideals were crucial for the country’s development.
“We have to look to the future, and work towards its development. There are many more challenges ahead, and more aims to achieve. With the pledge of moving forward, I extend my wishes for the upcoming festivals,” he concluded.
