“Supreme Court is indeed supreme but not infallible,” said Asaduddin Owaisi, chief of the All India Majis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), a few minutes after he reacted to the Ayodhya verdict with just a photo of a book cover, titled, “Supreme but not infallible” on Twitter.

Expressing his dissatisfaction over the Supreme Court judgment, he later pointed out at a press meet in Hyderabad that it was the “victory of faith over facts”. In a unanimous judgment, the five-judge bench held that the disputed land would be given to the Hindu parties, while an alternative land, measuring five acres, will be allotted to the Sunni Muslim Waqf Board.

“The judgment is final but we are not satisfied. We were fighting for justice and our legal right. We don't need 5-acre land as donation… don’t patronise us,” he said at a press meeting on Saturday.

“Muslims in the country are not so poor that we can’t afford to buy land to build a house of our Allah,” said Owaisi, adding that if he were to go out and seek alms in Hyderabad, “people would give more than that”.

Stating his agreement with the points put forward by the All Indian Muslim Personal Law Board (a religious body), he asked if the idols of Ram Lalla (the deity) had not been placed under the central dome in 1949, or if Babri Masjid had not been demolished in December 1992, would the judgment of SC have been the same then.

Hitting out at BJP, he said, “One day, my statements will prove to be true. BJP will make this country a Hindu state, as India is on the path of Hindutva."

Owaisi also expressed his displeasure over Congress’ reaction to the verdict. Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala had said that the party is in favour of the construction of Ram Temple. “This judgment not only opened the doors for the temple's construction but also closed the doors for BJP and others to politicise the issue,” he had said.

However, Owaisi said, “We (Muslims) have been deceived by political parties in the name of religion, for vote bank politics. The Congress reaction today is there for everyone to see.”
