Puducherry passes all students from classes 1-9 for 2020-21

All students from classes 1 to 9 in Puducherry have been declared as pass for the academic year 2020-21 after Puducherry Lt. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday approved the proposal submitted by the Directorate of School Education. It has also been announced that schools will function for five days in a week and Saturday and Sunday will be declared holidays. The schools will function till March 31, 2021 for classes 1 to 9.

“The students of Class 10 and Class 11 in Puducherry and Karaikal will be declared as per guidelines of the Tamil Nadu Board. The Class 10 and Class 11 students of Mahe and Yanam regions will be declared as per the guidelines of Kerala and Andhra Pradesh Boards respectively,” says the press release from the Lt Governor’s office.

All students studying (state syllabus) in classes 9, 10 and 11 in Tamil Nadu have been declared as ‘all pass’ this academic year.

However, for students studying in Yanam, the Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) on Monday has scheduled the annual examinations for the crucial two-year course in May. Theory examinations will be held from May 5 to May 22 for first year students, and from May 6 to May 23 for second year students. Class 10 dates have not been announced yet.

Meanwhile, with regard to students in Mahe, the Kerala Secondary Level School Certificate (SSLC) and Higher Secondary examinations (Plus Two) that were scheduled to be held on March 17, have been postponed due to the upcoming Assembly polls next month. The postponed exams will begin on April 8, the Central Election Commissioner has informed. Assembly elections will be held in Kerala on April 6.

“The schools will function for five days in a week and Saturday and Sunday will be declared holidays. The schools will function till March 31, 2021 for classes 1 to 9. The summer vacation will commence from April 1, 2021. However, classes for 10 11 and 12 standards will be conducted as per the schedule of examinations of the respective State Boards,” the press statement added.

In addition, the announcement for declaration of ‘dry days’ (All the arrack, toddy, liquor shops, clubs, bars and restaurants serving liquor shall remain closed) has also been made under Excise Rules from April 4 to April 6 on account of polling and from 4 pm on May 2 to May 3, on account of counting.
