Senior TV journalist Vikram Chandra on Thursday announced that he was stepping down as the group CEO and executive director of NDTV with immediate effect.

Announcing his decision, Chandra on Thursday evening tweeted, “Stepping down as Group CEO of NDTV. Will now be Consulting Editor, so can focus on my TV shows and other areas of interest.”

In a statement echoing Chandra’s decision, NDTV said, “Vikram Chandra has been a key member of the NDTV family since 1994, in a large number of roles. He has expressed the wish to return to full time journalism within NDTV and focus on the TV shows of the Group.”

NDTV said Chandra will don the role of a Consulting Editor and will be focussing on TV shows of the group.

 Economic Times reported that current executive vice-chairperson KVL Narayan Rao will take the additional charge of the group CEO of the company.

Chandra, who has been associated with NDTV for 22 years, was made the group CEO in 2011 for a three-year period. He was later granted an extension of another two years.
