A 25-year-old newly married woman from Chamarajnagar district was allegedly kidnapped by her family members on Wednesday.

CCTV footage shows a number of men dragging her through the parking space of a house and outside the gate. After she is taken out of the frame of the camera, some men are seen getting on to bikes and leaving the area.

According to Chamarajnagar Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh, the incident occurred at her husband's home at Bhimanagar in Kollegal.

“The accused have been identified. Her parents and other family members are behind this. We are looking for the girl and the accused,” he said.

Spoorthi was in love with Vinod for over three years. Both belong to Dalit communities. However, her family did not approve of her marriage because they were not happy with Vinod. The duo eloped to Bengaluru on May 6, following which family members of both the man and the woman lodged missing complaints.

On May 9, the day they returned to Chamrajnagar, they got married at a temple in Chamarajnagar and met the SP. “They went to Vinod’s house. Vinod’s family members had accepted the marriage. However, Spoorthi’s parents kept asking her to come back saying their marriage was not valid,” said Singh.

On May 25, when she was alone at home, over 20 people barged into the house and kidnapped her.

“The locals and her husband identified the accused. We have registered a case of kidnapping against over 20 people who are at the moment at large,” he said. This is a developing story.
