The world we live in seems deeply divided and polarised, and the one question that arises as successive episodes of terrorism and violence occur is, “Why?” Amaryllis Cox worked undercover for the CIA for ten years and travelled around the world. In her decade-long experience with counter-terrorism and intelligence operations, her biggest takeaway is this – listen to your enemy.
"The conversation that's going on right now in the United States about ISIS and about the United States overseas is more oversimplified than ever," explains Cox.
"If you're brave enough to listen to listen to your enemy's story, you can see that more often than not, you might have made some of the same choices if you'd their life instead of yours," says Cox, which might be the most important lesson the world needs today.
