Following the series of tweets that came from singer and radio jockey Suchitra Karthik's Twitter handle a few days ago, the Indian National League Party (INLP) has filed a complaint against her and demanded that she be arrested.
But that is not all. They have orally requested the Commissioner to take action against all those whose pictures the singer had tweeted.
Speaking to The News Minute, J Abdul Raheem, President of the INLP said, "We already know the cinema industry is terrible and unmentionable things happen behind the screens. These actors all have ardent followers among the youth of Tamil Nadu and are looked upon as examples. With these pictures, they are setting the wrong precedent."
Raheem then went on to quote actor and director TR Rajendar and said, "How can they allow people to take pictures of them like this in their bedroom? This is a social evil. Arresting the actors will make sure the others are more careful."
The series of tweets put out from the handle @suchitrakarthik, which has since been deactivated, claimed that Kollywood had an "adjustment" culture - a reference to the "casting couch". Pictures of certain Kollywood stars accompanied these allegations. The tweets also included explicit photos and videos, supposedly of female actors.
There have been conflicting reports regarding the activity on Suchitra's Twitter account, with her husband, stand-up comedian Karthik, at one point claiming that it was indicative of the singer's "emotional" state. Suchitra has maintained that the account was hacked and that she was not responsible for the tweets.
In the INLP's complaint letter, which was submitted to the Commissioner's office on March 5, the party has alleged that," The fight between these actor has led to the dissemination of pictures that will lead to WRONG intentions amongst youngsters. These actors and actresses have lot of followers. Due to their acts fuelled by lust, youth who see them will be misled."
When TNM contacted the Commissioner's office, they stated that the complaint had been forwarded. They cyber crime cell, however, could not shed any light on the status of the complaint.
The INLP is not confident of any action against those involved in the episode. "The police itself is hesitant to take action against actors. They think that there will be a law and order problem or that the Government wouldn't approve of it," said Raheem. "The Commissioner promised us immediate action but there had been no development in the matter yet," he added.
