An Election Commission flying squad seized Rs 7.66 crore from a truck on Wednesday evening at Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu.
However, a search revealed that the seized currency was in new Rs 2,000 denomination and was meant to be delivered to a national bank for Thursday's transactions.
EC sources in Chennai said the Thanjavur-bound truck was intercepted on the Pudukottai highway.
After verifying documents with officials travelling in the vehicle, the lorry was let off.
It may be recalled that polls for Aravakurichi and Thanjavur assembly constituencies that were originally scheduled to be held on May 16 were cancelled by election officials, following the seizure of a large sum of money.
The polls to these constituencies along with the bypoll for Thirupparankundram seat will be held on November 19.
