Three fishermen at Elliot’s Beach struggled to push back a spinner dolphin into the sea on Thursday morning who was found stranded at the beach.

Saravanan, Prakash and Ramesh- the three fishermen were trying to push the dolphin back into the sea from 8:30 in the morning, according to Times of India. The fishermen even tried to use a boat to pull the mammal into the sea. This plan was abandoned as huge waves prevented the boat from coming near the shore. The fishermen were able to put back the dolphin into the sea at 12:30pm.

Marine mammal expert Supraja Dharini told Times of India spinner dolphins were commonly found in the waters off the Chennai coast.

Spinner dolphins are known for their acrobatics, especially aerial spins. A spinner dolphin may come out of the water, front first and twirl its body as it rises in the air. After attaining a certain height, it descends and lands on its side. It can make two to five spins in one leap, according to Times of India.
