“I am very happy and I am very happy for my family, who stood by me. They went through a lot because of this case,” a visibly happy-looking Kanimozhi told TNM outside Patiala House Court in New Delhi on Thursday.
The DMK MP, and party president Karunanidhi's daughter, who was accused as a conspirator in the 2G case, was acquitted by a special CBI court on Thursday.
Saying that she has been “vindicated”, Kanimozhi told TNM's Anna Isaac hours after the verdict that she would like to thank her family, who stood by her through thick and thin.
“I’d like to thank the cadres and the leaders who supported me,” she added.
Calling the entire case a political conspiracy, she said, "The whole case was built on notional loss and it has now fallen apart."
With the CBI planning to appeal the case, Kanimozhi said that she was prepared to face the legal battles that lay ahead.
When asked about the RK Nagar bye-polls, where voting began this morning, she said that she was confident that DMK would win with or without the verdict being favourable to the party.
The press note she released to the media had said the last six years were “harrowing to say the least.”
She also said that she spoke to her father and brother. “I also spoke to the former Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh) and he told me truth had triumphed. The President of the Congress (Rahul Gandhi) also was very happy and he congratulated us,” she smiled.
Speaking to Thanthi TV, she had said, "There was no proof at all about the case and because of this we had to face several problems. No matter how many times DMK tried to explain this, no one was ready to listen to us. Today, we have won. This is a happy day for all of us."
"I have spoken to thalaivar (Karunanidhi) and to thalapathi (Stalin) as well. Both of them are extremely happy. As a next step, DMK will definitely explain the verdict to the people. We will tell them exactly what has happened and explain it to them," she added.
